Airstreams & Hurrican Sandy
Share [+]We have two Airstreams a Bambi (you can see a vintage model at MoMa) and a Safari. We have been slowly renovating the Bambi over the years and have put in a lot of time & money bringing it back to life. The Safari is in better shape and we have enjoyed camping in it for the last two summers. Both trailers need work and we put in a lot of effort getting it to a useable state. We keep our trailers in the over flow parking lot of the Brooklyn Navy Yard close to the exit gate. Hurrican Sandy did some damage to the Brooklyn Navy Yard and all the ground floor business were severly affected. We thought our trailers were safe from the rushing tide but unfortunately it took us a week after the storm to realize that the water level had reached the trailers up to 4 feet high. There is a water mark inside the trailer showing how high the water sat in the trailer. It was a devastating blow to us as now the trailers are wrecked. There is warping, cracking, pealing and mold inside the trailers. Everything had to be pulled out from inside and tossed or scrubbed / washed clean.
