Room by room organizing
Share [+]Take advantage of the new year and give your home a fresh start. Here are some organizing tips room by room.

Kitchen: Pull everthing out of the fridge and toss old condiments and spoiled food, scrub inside and out. Same with the pantry, if your not going to eat it donate it to a food bank, scrub the shelves and re-line it if necessary then organize by food group ie; cans, boxes, cereals. Check spices for expiration toss & restock. Open up those kitchen drawers and pull everything out, clean and wash drawer liners, sort through and organize by type ie: utensils and pens don’t go in the same drawer, take out menus and dish towels don’t go in the same drawer. Create systems in your drawers.

Bathroom: The mess is usually under the sink, the medicine cabinet or in the towel closet. First check the grout througout the space if it needs deep cleaning or re-grouting. Next scrub the entire room, even tile gets accumulated dust. Keep those tucked away spaces tidy with bins or boxes. Check all makeup, medications for expiration and toss. Half empty bottles of shampoo and the like should get consolidated or tossed. Corral those bath products in the shower or tub, spreading it out on the ledge looks messy.

Home Office: Avoid the great paper pile up. Old bills, letters, coupons, broken staplers and pens without ink usually end up in a stressful mess. It’s easy to let all the paper and projects become overwhelming. Consolidate items according to purpose. Get rid of cord clutter. Few things make a space look more messy than a pile of tangles wires on the floor. Label each cord and bundle them with velcro straps. Stop shoving manuals into the back of drawers and put them in a labeled file or box.

Living room: The living room often combines several space – media area, playspace and a dining room, to name a few. Choose one corner or part of your living room to tackle per week. Invest in a few stylish storage units hides any clutter that does not need to be out keeping the house fuss-free and looking clean.

Closets: Tackling the big purge will be another blog post on its own for now lets say you’ve done your purge and you want to put the closet in order. Place clothing by category ie; pants, skirts, blouses, jackets etc. Of course it goes without saying to organize each category by color. Folding, stacking, hanging, lining up of sweaters, bags, shoes, etc. Same goes for the other closets in your home.

Garage and Basement or Storage Room: This is the room where you put all your unwanted stuff. Its usually filled to the brim with junk. A garage makeover make sense, finding everyting you have in minutes would save lots of money each year in those quick trips to the hardware store to buy yet another screwdriver (in my case screws). Use it or lose it. Send those old sports equipment to your local school sports program. Clearing out clutter is incredibly satisfying, and you won’t really miss that fifth spare tennis racket.
